November 18, 2019 (Boston, MA) - The
Boston Patent Law Association (BPLA)
recognized this year’s Honorees at the
9th Annual
Invented Here!
Awards Event
that took place on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at the Exchange Conference Center in Boston, MA. The BPLA’s
Invented Here!
Committee received over 50 patent nominations this year, covering a wide range of sciences and technologies. From among the nominations, 13 were selected as Honorees who represented the innovators of our innovation community.
With over 80 guests in attendance, the evening kicked off with a reception featuring posters of the front page of the patents for each of the Honorees to stand by and describe their patented inventions to guests. The Honorees included one or more inventors, or representatives thereof, of the 13 patents selected.
Following the reception, four Featured Honorees (indicated in the list below) participated on stage in a question and answer session moderated by Hiawatha Bray, Business Reporter from the
Boston Globe
and author of the book, entitled “You Are Here: From the Compass to GPS, the History and Future of How We Find Ourselves.” Each Featured Honoree answered Hiawatha’s questions about their respective inventions, personal stories that led to their inventions, their innovative spirits, and other topics. Questions from guests in attendance were also posed to the Featured Honorees during the question and answer session.

The purpose of the
Invented Here!
Program is to celebrate innovators, their inventions, and the stories behind their innovations. Through the Program, the BPLA educates the public about how the patent system advances science and technology and provides an educational opportunity for the public to meet fascinating innovators and innovations.
Qualifying patents must have issued within the last five years or be claimed in an issued patent tied to a product that received U.S. regulatory approval within the last three years. Inventions claimed in the qualifying patents are required to have been developed in New England or developed by an inventor who resides in New England. Honorees typically represent a science or technology that can be described or demonstrated to the general public. Thank you to all of our Honorees for participating in this year’s event and to our sponsors for making the event possible! Thank you also to the guests in attendance and to the marketing team from Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds for their tireless efforts to produce a successful event. Thank you to Constance Brennan, the BPLA website administrator, for her efforts during the nomination and registration periods.
